JULIA SCAVO - Hugues Godmé
5th of October 2021
If you are looking for the superwoman of the Sommellerie world, stop right there, we found her for you !
Julia won her first Sommelier competition in 2008 when she was crowned "Best Sommelier of Romania". At that time she was a Mathematics teacher and this was the first step of her successful Sommelier career! After being a finalist in the "Europe & Africa" ASI competition, she was entitled to participate in the ASI World competition in 2016 but, being pregnant with her second child at that time she had to let the replacement candidate go.
Julia did a tremendous comeback in 2017 by winning third place at the Best Sommelier of Europe competition and then, in 2019, was ranked 7th as the Best Sommelier of the World competition in 2019!
More recently, Julia was part of the Romanian team that participated in the "Blind tasting World competition". A great performance from the full team offered them to be ranked in the TOP 10 with 9th place.

SEE! We told you...she is the real deal!
Champagne Hugues Godmé
Verzenay Grand Cru - Blanc de Noirs - 0 dosage - Organic
Medium gold with pinkish hues. Deep nose, displaying intense red fruit and Mirabelle plum, baked apple with a sense of identity coming from the oxidative style which brings notes of almonds, oriental spices, wrapped by a touch butter and brioche toast. Fruit is vibrant and lifted by a blossomy character of spicy potpourri.
Dry and upfront attack with tiny bubbles imprinted in the silky texture driven by a vivid acidity. A serious Champagne structured by its oak- derived phenolic bite. Suavity of the mouthfeel with fleshy core highlighting lots of red fruits, juicy Mirabelle plum with oaky spiciness, toasty almonds, and long savoury aftertaste.
It needs aerating in the glass and deliciously pairs with a creamy Saint Felicien cheese. Another pairing should be veal and red tuna carpaccio revisiting the “vitello tonnato” topped with caviar. Drink over 2-3 years.
